Health Inquiry Project

Beginning next week, we will begin a short inquiry on a health topic of your choice. You will:
  1. Choose a topic.
  2. Investigate your topic (research)
  3. Develop a BIG question for your topic as it relates to HEALTHY LIVING.
  4. Answer your question and present your findings to the class.


Possible topics (if you have another topic it must be approved by Mr. Congram):
  •  food addictions (how food is manufactured to makes us crave more)
  • cafeteria food (what are the issues in school cafeterias)
  •  nutrition in restaurants (fast food etc.)
  • rise in diabetes
  • obesity
  • diets (choose a specific diet to research)
  • processed foods
  • "Franken Foods"
  • gluten-free trend
  • sports drinks or caffeine drinks (Red Bull etc.)
  • vegetarianism/veganism
  • food labels (organic, fat free, less sugar etc.) - misleading?
  • lunch - prepared kids' lunches
  • sugar
  • salt
  • vitamin supplements (multivitamins)
  • organic foods

How can you identify a healthier food choice?


  1. In groups of 3-4, choose a fast food restaurant.
  2. Choose a healthier choice and a less healthy choice.
  3. Compare your choices using these criteria:
  • preparation method
  • calories
  • serving size
  • grams of fat (saturated, trans)
  • ingredients/nutrients (sodium, sugar, fibre etc.
